The MP8856 is a synchronous step-down converter with an integrated low-side MOSFET (LF-FET). This device can regulate the output voltage (VOUT) across a wide input voltage (VIN) range with high efficiency. It can deliver up to 5A of output current (IOUT) with excellent load and line regulation. The integrated VOUT scaling and adjustable IOUT limit functions meet the USB power delivery (PD) and programmable power supply (PPS) requirements. The MP8856 supports a 100% duty cycle function to reduce the VIN-to-VOUT dropout voltage while providing high efficiency. It also provides an output isolation switch gate driver. The MP8856 implements a PMBus interface, which supports flexible design for different applications. The device provides a configurable, accurate input and output constant-current (CC) limit, adjustable reference voltage (from 0.1V to 2.147V), selectable pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) mode and pulse-width modulation (PWM) mode, as well as configurable line drop compensation, soft start, and EN shutdown discharge. These configurations support flexible design for different applications. When the internal feedback resistor ratio for VOUT/VFB (FB_RATIO) = 10, the MP8856 supports a 1V to 21.47V VOUT range with a 10mV resolution via the PMBus interface. When FB_RATIO = 16, the device supports a 1.6V to 28V VOUT range with a 16mV resolution via the PMBus interface. Full protection features include over-current protection (OCP), over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage protection (UVP), and thermal shutdown protection. The MP8856 is available in a QFN-16 (3mmx3mm) package.
